Students’ Solutions for the Sustainable Development Goals.
The 2030 Challenge is an initiative by Copenhagen Business School, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and oikos Copenhagen. CBS, oikos and five Danish embassies in Africa have invited students to help solve local challenges to the SDGs. We launch the challenge at Folkemødet and present the cases and the students from Algeria, Denmark, Egypt, Ghana, South Africa, and Tanzania. And we ask the question: How can universities and the Foreign Ministry best facilitate student engagement in the SDGs and development cooperation?

STUDENTS’ SOLUTIONS FOR THE SDGS: THE CHALLENGES
The challenges were prepared by the respective Embassies.
Business Opportunities for Wind Energy in Algeria
Algeria’s hydrocarbon industry is highly developed and responsible for 95% of its export revenues. The energy system runs almost entirely on domestically produced fossil fuels. Increasing living standards and population growth will necessitate a diversified energy portfolio and investment in wind energy technologies. This represents a meaningful green business opportunity for Algeria.
Sustainable Aquaculture in Egypt
Livelihood and food security are dependent on the aquaculture sector. Innovation and sustainability are needed to enhance the aquaculture sector and make it more efficient – without compromising water quality, food security and fishers’ livelihoods.
Sustainable Business Models for the Fintech Industry in Ghana
SMEs experience difficulties in job creation and scaling up their businesses to become competitive in the international market. As FinTech plays a central role in Ghana’s economy and mobile money technology is broadly diffused, FinTech may be instrumental in addressing the challenge of generating economic growth.
Local Solutions to Securing Women's Reproductive Health in Tanzania
Most women do not have complete bodily autonomy. Decisions in regard to care surrounding childbirth are made within the socio-economic context of the household. Low-cost solutions are needed to increase the survival prospects of women and to provide them with local and accessible solutions for safe childbirth.
Energy and Water Security in South Africa Through Innovative Business Models
Energy use is extremely high and efficiency very low, while water infrastructure is inefficient, resulting in large amounts of wastewater and a lack of nationwide access to clean water. Especially smaller communities would benefit from innovative ways of producing and consuming efficient energy and safe water.
