*Fashion after Covid-19*
Join Green Week for an interactive talk with CEO Jess Fleischer from the Danish brand Son of a Tailor!
about the event
The bad news is: The status quo of the fashion industry is detrimental to the planet and to the people who make the garments.
Covid-19 has acted as a catalyst in driving the systemic issues of the industry to new heights: brands sit on mountains of unsold inventories, orders are canceled, and garment workers are left without pay.
The good news is: there are alternatives if the industry is willing to change. In this lecture, Jess Fleischer explores how made-to-order effectively addresses fashion’s waste problems and how this approach helped Son of a Tailor cope with the pandemic. Jess is an expert when it comes to Lean manufacturing and Son of a Tailor’s way of doing things is heavily inspired by the philosophy that stands behind Toyota’s success. One might argue that Lean is essentially about reducing waste and made-to-order and custom fit are great ways to achieve just that.
The online lecture rounds up with a Q&A, so bring a sharp mind and some questions if you like
about the speaker
Jess Fleischer is the founder and CEO of Copenhagen-based clothing-tech company Son of a Tailor. A production engineer and true believer in the Lean production principles, he founded Son of a Tailor “not because I was in love with fashion, but because of the vast opportunities to improve fashion for everybody involved; customers, employees, and the environment” as he puts it himself.
Son of a Tailor makes custom-fitted wardrobe essentials for men, using its Ideal Size algorithm to determine each customer’s individual measurements. All garments are crafted to order in Italy and Portugal from materials of the highest quality and come signed by the name of the person who made them.
