2030 Challenge – global teams, critical challenges and innovative solutions.

The 2030 Challenge is a global case competition, co-founded in 2021 by Copenhagen Business School, Danida under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and oikos Copenhagen.

Students from different nations are brought together in global teams to collaborate on developing solutions to critical challenges against the backdrop of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The first instalment of the 2030 Challenge focuses on collaboration between 5 African countries and Denmark and how to tackle the SDG challenges together, to pave the way to a sustainable future. The 2030 Challenge connects brilliant students from Algeria, Denmark, Egypt, Ghana, South Africa, and Tanzania, who can share their experiences, learn from each other and contextualize their knowledge to develop innovative solutions and contribute to the SDGs in the case countries.

are you looking to join the oikos Case Competition team?

Our case competition provides students with the opportunity to develop hands-on experience on sustainability-related challenges. We have organised and held case competitions since 2019 (Integrated Project and oikos Case Competition). In 2021, oikos Copenhagen co-founded the 2030 Challenge with Copenhagen Business School and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.

Being a member of the oikos Case Competition, you will challenge the current status quo of business in society. Setting up a multi-day event with workshops, sessions and finals you can probe your organisation and stakeholder management skills. You will work with companies and embassies to formulate cases, which reflect the current business environment and the need to move towards sustainability. This leads to opportunities to extend your network globally, get deep knowledge about a sustainability-related challenge and acquire non-textbook experience. Do you want to path the way for others to solve sustainability challenges?

Curricular Transformation –responsible management education and creating tomorrow’s leaders.

Curricular Transformation is central to oikos Copenhagen’s existence and mission as it aims to integrate sustainability into the university's study programmes. This project leverages curricular innovation to bridge the gap between the current and future needs of profound sustainability knowledge for the leaders of tomorrow.

It seems increasingly obvious that the business world, policy makers, and international organizations have an increasing demand for graduates with sustainability knowledge. Graduates influence in large part how the world is shaped and we need them to have the proper understanding and tools to do this adequately. Importantly so, it is imperative to increase the awareness and interest of students about sustainable economics and management.

Curricular Transformation is supported and collaborates closely with the CBS Dean of Education, CBS PRME, and CBS Sustainability. The project instils change by collecting and sharing relevant data to express the need and desire for sustainability-related courses and programs. This is followed by the incorporation of sustainability in the university’s curricula as the team works closely with study-boards, professors and students to make tangible changes

Example of previous initiatives:

  • Collection of data and creation of a report to highlight the importance of sustainability to study boards and CBS’ faculties.

  • Adding sustainability components in study boards and some courses.

  • Pilot project of incorporating sustainability as an integrated learning outcome for study programs.

  • Organising workshops on the SGDs, Carbon Literacy and the Nordic 9.

greenweek.png

Green Week is oikos Copenhagen’s flagship event and one of the most important student-led events at Copenhagen Business School. CBS is patron of the project.

Our 3-4 day event hosted at CBS attracts more than 1000 students annually and features dozens of participating guests. Green Week significantly contributes to engaging, raising awareness, and inspiring students about the socio-economic ecosystem of sustainability and social responsibility. Green Week 2021 will be held digitally, and we hope to see many interesting viewers online.

Providing a platform where people can learn, share and discuss sustainability, this project gathers various stakeholders such as high-profile actors from different fields, companies, academia, cities, non-profit organisations, and students in an energising environment.

Since its creation, Green Week has been a collection of events over a few days, similarly to a sustainability festival. Our teams have organized conferences, panel discussions, keynote speeches, workshops, simulation games, movie screenings, clothing swaps, food tastings, networking events, and much more.

about oikos impact

Our oikos Impact project acts as an intermediary between the university and the students and strives to create awareness and impact through concrete initiatives moving the sustainability agenda forward.

Leveraging the student’s & the university's desire to be more sustainable, this project flourishes by working hands-on with the Sustainable Development Goals (UN’s 2030 SDGs). To do so, the impact team collaborates with various stakeholders, such as the CBS organization, third-party providers (e.g. canteen), students and departments like CBS Sustainability.

oikos impact has instilled change by supporting the CBS organization through providing the students’ perspectives and continues to work with the institution to make things greener. Each year, the team raises awareness and finds creative and innovative solutions to problems about sustainability on campus.

Examples of previous initiatives

  • Pilot project and official roll-out of recycling stations at the canteens at all CBS campuses.

  • Collaborating with the CBS organization on their Sustainability Masterplan.

  • Sustainability campaigns to raise awareness about the topic on campus, e.g. with a cup-installation built from collected single-use coffee cups.

oikos Website Headers Blog Banner.png

oikos Career aims at creating awareness and opportunities to increase the links between students and sustainability-related organizations.

The path to a career in the field of sustainability can come in several shapes and forms, making it a complex road to follow. This challenge has created a need to develop a platform where students can engage with sustainability professionals to help them discover meaningful and fulfilling careers.

The project strives to provide skills & tools for the pursuit of a sustainability-related career through inspiring events about the topic and an opportunity to apply to sustainability-related jobs through our yearly sustainable virtual career fair.

In the last years, we provided valuable insights to students by organizing keynote speeches, CV workshops, digital career fairs, conferences, panel discussions, webinars and other similar events. Students learned more about what a career in sustainability is and it allowed them to equip themselves with some of the necessary tools to achieve their sustainability-related career goals.

Example of previous events

  • Sustainability related CV workshop with DJOF experts.

  • Panel discussion about what B-Corp certifications are & how they work, with B-Lab, PNO (already certified) and Res-Res (in certification process).

  • Company presentations from sustainability consulting firms during Green Week.

  • Keynote speech about building a personal brand and solid LinkedIn profile with the CEO of V3 Digital.

  • The Sustainability Virtual Career Fair with Graduateland.

case competition_new.png

The Case Competition is an initiative by oikos Copenhagen aimed at giving students the opportunity to develop hands-on experience on a sustainability related challenge. It facilitates the collaboration between companies and ambitious students by means of solving a sustainability-related business case.

It’s an opportunity for established corporates to find case-specific solutions to a sustainability-related problem through an interdisciplinary team of high-performing students coming from different universities in the greater Copenhagen area.

It’s a possibility for companies to get in touch with potential talent, and for students get to experience what sustainability in business really means, learn from the different backgrounds of their peers, and acquire important life-long skills along the way!

The projects takes four around tracks, each hosted by a company that introduces a unique challenge. Students will try to solve the problem during 4 workshops over the span of two semesters. The content and structure of these workshops will vary depending on the track. In each of them, participants will gain new skills and knowledge that will help them solve the challenge.

Once all workshops are completed, groups will present their solutions at a final event in front of a panel of judges, and one group from each track will be declared the winner and receive a special award.

Comapnies and challanges Example from 2019:

  • Accenture and City of Copenhagen: Contribute to urban sustainability by developing waste management solutions.

  • Pylon: Bring Blockchain technology into the energy sector and contribute to a potential disruption of an industry.

  • Penstable: Support the expansion of the start-up by setting the basis to export its sustainable pensions products.

  • IBM: Using IBM high-tech software and applications, develop solutions for better preparedness and relief when handling natural disasters.

Note:

The 2021 edition of the OCC will be based on the designed case competition from 2020 that was cancelled due to the Covid-19 outbreak. All accepted participants maintain their spots. If spots become vacant, other applicants will have the option ti take part.

Additionally, we have some very exciting news coming up - stay tuned!

Social Pioneers – a bridge between students and social entrepreneurs.

oikos Website Headers Blog Banner (3).png

About Social Pioneers

All too often, students learn about various companies without ever being in contact with them, even less, being capable of visiting them. Social enterprises come in all forms and sizes and the road to social entrepreneurship can greatly vary, but they are all bound by the same end goal: tackling the challenges of sustainability.

This project strives to inspire and bring practical insights to students about what characterises the social pioneers in society. It also provides students with valuable insights from business models for sustainability and allows them to increase their understanding of the hurdles that entrepreneurs often deal with.

Since its creation, this project has created casual and interactive meeting spaces for students and inspiring social entrepreneurs. This is done on one hand with on-site visits to social enterprises located in the Greater Copenhagen Area to arrange face-to-face meetings and provide unique insights about the journey of entrepreneurship. On the other hand, the team organises events for students where social entrepreneurs may participate in themed panel debates or workshops.
